Hello my family and friends,

I just left the Island of Serendipity.........Sri Lanka. Ceylon as it was previously known until 1972 is a beautiful teardrop island floating in the Indian Ocean. This small island (270 miles in length and 140 miles at it's widest point) gained its Independence in 1948 from British domination.

I was on the island with a fellow Regional Safety and Security Officer conducting an initial safety and security assessment to determine the possibility of re-entry for the Peace Corps. Peace Corps has been on the island three different times since 1962 and has had to pull out due to political strife. We spent the whole week meeting with the US Embassy staff, the Sri Lankan Government, NGO's and other foreign Voluntary agencies. We even had the opportunity to attend an intimate gathering for Deputy Sec. of State, Richard Armitage.

I have been truly touched by the kindness and warmth that we received and I hope that one day soon I will return to this serene country.

I am currently in the most crowded country in the world, Bangladesh, and I will be here until Sept. 8th., then I will return home to the Philippines for a few weeks. Here is my travel schedule.......

  As you can see by my travel schedule, I am on the road a lot so please forgive me if I do not respond immediately to your e-mails, it probably just means that I am on a airplane, train, bus, boat, taxi, rickshaw ......
